| Colongra Pipeline - Not Your Average Weld
In re-thinking methods of generating greener, cleaner more responsive electricity production, the X70 grade Colongra Gas Pipeline also demanded a re-think on welding solutions to meet the unique challenges it presented |
| Lincoln Electric Automation at the Frontline of Productivity Boost
Frontline embarked on a major re-development of their manufacturing facilities, including moving to a new purpose-built site, to significantly improve capacity and reduce lifting/handling of the product typically from twenty-two times to just two. As a major part of this re-structure, a Lincoln Electric dual robotic cell unit has significantly reduced cycle times on the highly complex towbars Frontline manufactures compared to that of their older single cell robotic technology |
| Botany Bay Pipeline
Sydney's new $1.9 billion desalination plant at Kurnell will deliver a reliable water supply to the ever-growing population, powered by renewable energy. Delivering 250 million litres of quality drinking water a day via an 18km pipeline from the plant to Erskineville in Sydney's inner west, the 7.2km of twin pipe were required to run below Botany Bay to join the land pipe, a contract won by Standish Constructions. John Standish enlisted the expertise of Lincoln Electric® to assist with developing the best welding procedure to ensure this challenging part of the project was delivered on time and on budget. |
| Keppel Prince Wind Tower Production: Going from strength to strength
While Keppel Prince Engineering has definitely been in the right place at the right time to capitalise on the growth of renewable energy infrastructure, the purchase of half a dozen Lincoln Electric® AC/DC 1000™ machines 18 months ago has enabled the company to maintain and grow their competitive advantage. |
| The Towbar Factory: Profile Cutting Delivers Better Quality and Productivity
More recently, The Towbar Factory has secured contracts with Mazda and Ford to manufacture original part towbars. Maurice Astill attributes this success mainly to the installation of the Lincoln Electric high-definition plasma cutter combined with the new generation drawing programmes that the organisation uses. |

| Retrofitting San Francisco's Bridges
Currently, five of seven bridges in the San Francisco Bay area under management of the California Department of Transportation CALTRANS) are being rebuilt or seismically retrofitted to meet new codes for bridge strength - they are the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco/Oakland Bay Bridge, Carquinez Bridge, Richmond/San Rafael Bridge and Benicia-Martinez Bridge. The goal of seismic retrofitting is to prevent collapse and has
already been completed on the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge. |
| STT® Love at Wimbledon
Tubular structures are steadily gaining popularity; not just for aesthetic reasons, but also as a means of optimizing material usage in terms of weight to strength ratios. Such was the case for a new covering for the famous tennis courts of Wimbledon. |
| Striking Piece of Steel Construction
For the critical full penetration, 1130mm (with 50mm wall thickness) pipe welds are used in the main roof structure; while for all other pipe butts, 4mm HYP root passes are used, followed by fill and cap passes with 2mm 203M. All these procedures were qualified to AS1554. |
| DeWys Automation Saves 25 Hours Week
As a test, DeWys team members sent 20 of its hydraulic reservoir parts to Lincoln's headquarters in Cleveland to see what the robotic welding cell could accomplish. "After Lincoln set-up our sample, a few of us went to Cleveland and they demonstrated for us how the System 40 welded the reservoirs. Not only was the quality of the weld excellent, but more importantly the spatter was eliminated and so was the cleaning time. After the demonstration, we were sold and purchased a unit for our plant." |
| Power Wave® 455/STT® Replaces Two Machines at Lockerbie & Hole
The company is also fully integrated and does not require the use of many
subcontractors, thereby reducing the overall total installed cost to its clients. In all, Lockerbie & Hole employs 360 salaried and 2,650 seasonal employees. |

Before the GT40, no American car had won the event. |
| Robot Welding Corvette Seat Frames
The robotic cell at Kadee makes 22 welds on each frame of differing varieties - corner, fillet and butt. Eight aluminum parts are welded together including two side rails, two brackets, two plates and front and back beams. These parts, which are fabricated on-site by Kadee, are of a grade 6005 aluminum that ranges in thickness from 2 to 4 mm. |
| Honda Improves Productivity With STT® Welding Process
Honda of America has been making quality motorcycles for more than 19 years. Of course, every motorcycle has a gas tank, and the gas tank is a very important part of the machine. Not only does the tank have to be of absolutely top quality from a safety standpoint, but it's also right between the rider's legs. If it's not perfect - it's very noticeable! |
